Presentations

I give presentations at conferences, to computer user groups and business groups, to company executives, to college classes, and so on. I've even given presentations for computer store grand openings and at computer swap meets. The following are slides for a few of my talks. In most cases, these slides aren't perfect because most of my presentations are focused around live demos and the slides are designed to augment the demo. However, the slides provide a lasting reference; whereas the live demonstrations are transitory.

If you have a group and you'ld like to have me speak, feel free to contact me. My availability varies, so please try to contact me at least two months before the talk. For non-profit groups, I generally donate my time and resources, but require travel expenses when overnight travel is involved.

  • An Introduction to Open Source Software
I've given this talk in form or another many times, usually at colleges or to corporate executives considering their company's Open Source strategy.
  • An Introduction to Open Source Software for Real Estate Applications
This is an update of the Introduction to Open Source Software presentation with more information about GIS software and content management systems.
  • The Open Netule Project
This talk describes the Netule Thin Server philosophy including a 12+ bullet definition of a Netule.
  • Introduction to Thin Servers
This is an earlier version of the Netule Thin Server Philosophy talk above. It is more general in nature and aimed at a less technical audience.
  • An Overview of the Netule FW-I Firewall
This talk describes the Netule FW-I Firewall. It also considers a number of other Linux firewalls.
  • Backup and Archival Systems
This is the outline of a last minute talk that I gave once. It contains ideas which I would like to see included in a Netule Backup Server in the future. As a result, I intend to complete this presentation someday.
  • An Introduction to LTPlus
LTPlus is an Open Source raster to vector conversion package dating back to the early 1990s. This talk describes LTPlus and says why someone should spend to time and effort porting the software to Linux.
  • Open Source Tools for Web Developers
This is a talk first given to Internet Professionals Northwest. This talk describes a number of Open Source languages and data base management systems, and then goes on to survey many of the frameworks and Content Management Systems available to Open Source developers.
